All crystals are capable of storing aether. The most common is elementally aligned aether. That which one would find in the ambient aether of our world. But so too are we comprised of aether; body and soul. Memory is but a part of that, and to place a fragment of memory in a crystal is no different to the crystal itself. Imprinting a crystal with the concept for a creation is but a variation of that process.

As for the crystal here, I cannot say. It has not removed the knowledge of what abilities we have lost. But it may hold the information of that which we have found ourselves unable to use, even should the abilities themselves be but sealed, rather than removed.
