At first, Reiner wonders if he's disturbed the little creature too much, thinking it might finish its (adorable!) stretch and walk away. Maybe it's like a cat in that regard, choosing when and how it wishes to interact with humans. But he's pleasantly surprised when the noodle-like little guy hops over and settles down on him.
As far as Reiner is concerned, an animal immediately trusting him is one of the greatest compliments he can receive. It's right up there with children feeling comfortable enough to dangle off of his arms. Maybe it's a lingering effect of the "big brother" persona he wore for years, or maybe it's something else.
Whatever the case, he sits quite still, happy to let the little creature settle in. He's about to try his luck in gently petting it when it suddenly speaks.
Reiner's hand freezes in midair. He blinks down at the creature occupying his lap, more surprised than anything.
"You can talk?" he asks. A question with an obvious answer, but it must be voiced!
